Dozens of islands can be found around this area, just a short boat away.  Lots of these islands have unexplored beaches with radical surf breaks that are even bigger than the world famous wave at La Punta.

There are 2 main beaches in Santa Catalina. Their names are Playa Santa Catalina and Playa Estero.  These are both black sand beaches produced from volcanic activity eons ago.  Playa Estero offers gentle waves with large tide changes throughout the day.  Playa Santa Catalina is the busier of the two and has the boat rentals available. Playa Estero is a large, clean beach with a very consistent small break for everyone to enjoy.

The beach waters in and around Santa Catalina are routinely tested by the Panamanian government authorities and have been awarded the Bandera Azul Ecologica or Ecologic Blue Banner award for their purity. This means the water here is super CLEAN=YAY!
